Projects - Texas Southern University Science Building
Houston, Texas
The project involved the new construction of a 4 level, 168,000 square foot teaching and research laboratory facility.
The vivarium portion of the project involved approximately 3,000 square feet of space on the first level. The area includes administrative support, two procedure rooms, five animal holding rooms, a cage and bottle wash room, a feeding and bedding storage room and a quarantine room. The entire area is under negative air pressure with a separate air lock room at each entrance. Equipment includes fume hoods, a cage and bottle washer, steam sterilizer, a wash down basin and a pathology workstation. The HVAC system is on the emergency power system and is composed of a dedicated, 100% outside air unit with a variable frequency drive and an airflow tracking system that automatically adjusts the exhaust and supply air to maintain desired room pressure relationships. The HVAC system maximizes energy efficiency.
