Projects - Texas Children's Hospital Neurological Research Institute
Houston, Texas
A major Texas Children’s Hospital complex addition, this project is a dedicated research facility for state-of-the-art pediatric investigation with special emphasis on neurology.
The project consisted of the addition of a new 13 level, 450,000 square foot research facility in the Texas Medical Center. Air handling units with variable frequency drives, outside air source, pre-filtration, preheat coil with circulating pump, humidifier, cooling coil and final filtration providing air to variable air volume valves with hot water heating coils are located in each typical floor.
Electrical service was obtained via a local service provider via an electrical vault containing two 3,000 kVA transformers, 35 kV primary voltage to 480Y/277V, 3PH, 4W secondary voltage that serves two main switchboards in a main-tie-main configuration. For emergency power the building is equipped with two emergency generators rated for 1,500 kW/1,875 kVA, 480Y/277V-3PH, 4W that serves new emergency paralleling gear 480Y/277V, 3PH, 4W rated for 5,000 amps.
